The 18/1 Girls are a super talented group of young players, so far in 2018 we have made the final of the Eltham tournament and the final of the National Classic so we know our best is good enough to go all the way in VC.
Coached by Scott and Hunter, the team has potential match winners in every position, as shown on Friday night with Bella Niven-Brown’s 3 point buzzer beater to overcome Knox by 1 point. It was a tough game following on from The Classic long weekend tournament, but the girls dug deep and found a way to win. The team sets high standards for themselves, they play unselfish basketball, support each other well and play the best defence in the competition.
Our taller players, Lara Edmanson, Sara-Rose Smith, Aannalise King and Lucy Murphy are all athletic, aggressive rebounders and good shooters – and really tough for any opponent to stop. Lara and Sara both helped the U18 Vic Metro team to Gold this year so we are led by a couple of current and future stars. Lara is also a key player in the BigV Magic Women’s team. Our guards and wings all handle and shoot the ball well, Lily Davies, Bella Niven-Brown and Grace Gordon are also leading players in the Magic senior program. Tayah Kelly is a star guard with a big basketball future, Nicola Xenos has been a dynamic players with Magic since U12’s and we welcomed back Amber Annetta to the Magic this season.
Keep up the great work girls!
