Dear All,
Below is an update relating to our junior & senior domestic and representative competitions.
Junior Domestic
Unfortunately we no longer have a reasonable expectation of a winter domestic season being held in its traditional format.
If any season is possible between May and September, it will not reflect the length, format or fee structure that junior domestic players were charged for the planned winter season.
In light of this, all junior domestic members are eligible for refunds of your winter season fees.
Please contact your club to inquire about refunds as Basketball Hawthorn has not taken receipt of any registration fees for the winter season.
Senior Domestic
A few senior domestic teams had pre-paid for this season. In light of Basketball Hawthorn’s current financial situation, these fees will be carried forward to next season. No refunds for senior players are possible at this stage.
We will continue to monitor the situation to be as nimble as possible in resurrecting domestic competitions as soon as we are able.
Junior Magic
The status of VJBL rests with Basketball Victoria. There has been no change as yet to the last advice which was issued on March 16. That advice indicated that VJBL competition was suspended until at least April 17
Please note, no further discussion has taken place at this stage in relation to the National Junior Classic (June), Under 16 National Championships (July), nor the Under 14 National Club Championships (October) where we were expected to be strong title contenders in both the Boys and Girls competitions.
Senior Magic
With regard to Senior Magic, a decision has been made to cancel the Senior Magic program for 2020. This applies to all 4 teams unless the players choose to pay to play if a modified season takes place. BH cannot fund player or coach payments for Senior Magic this year and accordingly, all imports have been sent home for 2020.
These are extremely uncertain times. The goalposts are shifting daily. Please stay tuned for further announcements relating to our financial position.
We thank our basketball family for your support and encourage everyone to take care and stay well.
Gen Brammall, Brock Rogers and the entire Board
