Big V Round 8 Wrap Up

More mixed results from our various Big V teams. Check out the wrap up below.

CHAMPIONSHIP MEN – Ringwood 110 defeated Hawthorn 81 & Hume City 110 defeated Hawthorn 78
Ringwood headed to Hawthorn and piled on 110pts to put the Magic away by 29pts. A 35-23 start by the visitors paved the way for the victory, along with a 55% shooting clip, with Nathan Champion (23pts) and Tate Unruh (22pts) teaming together for a good night out. For the Magic, Darrell Waters dropped 19pts and Ben Waldren netted 15pts.

Hume City completed their best weekend of the season with a barnstorming 110-78 demolition of Hawthorn, marking a strong return to form by the Broncos and a platform to build from going forward. The Magic was never in the game after facing a 20pt deficit after the opening 10min, all up it was just an afternoon to forget. Connecting at 55%, the Broncos dominated every facet of the game with Shaun Prendergast (21pts, 5 treys) leading five players returning double digits. Ending the weekend 0-2 and conceding a massive 220pts, the Magic slid down the ladder and have some big mountains to climb in the coming weeks.

DIVISION 1 WOMEN – Western Port 70 defeated Hawthorn 54
The resurgence of the Western Port Steelers continued as they visited Hawthorn and came away comfortable winners, getting up on the scoreboard 70-54 despite losing the rebound count 48-58. That was thanks largely to the Magic’s Tash Ross-Harris who had 11 points and an incredibly 29 rebounds, including 14 on the offensive end. That was the only real highlight for the Magic, with Steelers import Jess Jenkins dominant again, this time with 31 points and 9 boards. An important road win for the Steelers as they look to push up the ladder.

YOUTH LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP MEN – Hawthorn 87 defeated Knox 83
Hawthorn scored the chocolates over Knox thanks to Jack Barry’s incredible individual performance. The point guard notched 41 points, which included six triples. The game was very heated but Magic kept their composure as Knox leveled the scores with only a few minutes remaining.

YOUTH LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP WOMEN – Knox 51 defeated Hawthorn 36
A day to forget for the Magic, shooting only 18% from the field as they were outplayed by the strong defensive unit of Knox. Magic only scoring over 10 points in one of their quarters. Ott the damage once again for Knox (22p, 16r, 2s, 2b).
