Big V Round 7 Wrap Up

Another round of Big V completed, and some mixed results, starting off with the fantastic efforts of the Championship Men to overcome Waverley.

CHAMPIONSHIP MEN – Hawthorn 86 defeated Eltham 73 & McKinnon 80 defeated Hawthorn 62
Hawthorn started the weekend with a badly-needed win, accounting for Eltham by 13pts in a crucial game for both teams. Very little separated the teams from start to finish, perhaps Hawthorn’s finishing and ability from the arc forcing the advantage. Jarrod O’Shannessy top scored with 17pts and drained five treys, while Ben Waldren was solid with 15pts and 10rbs. For the Wildcats, Adam Moore (21pts, 14rbs) did his best to get his team across the line.

The Cougars returned home on Sunday to face former favourite Marcus Timmons and his Hawthorn outfit and on the back of a 22-11 third quarter the home team mastered an 18pt win, extending their winning run to an impressive seven games. Harrison (29pts) led the charge once again, while Neal Mueller returned 16pts. For the Magic, who split their weekend, only Jeremiah Juric (13pts) and Ben Waldren (12pts) reach double figures. And, by the way, yes Timmons played, returning 4pts in 21min of action.

DIVISION 1 WOMEN – Mildura 102 defeated Hawthorn 51
Courtney Sandiman had a night out to remember for the Mildura Heat knocking down 8 3’s on the way to 30 points as the Mildura Heat absolutely dominated the Hawthorn Magic, hitting triple figures on the way to 102- 51 win. The Heat increased their lead at every break and shot at over 50% on their way to 102 points which is just an outstanding offensive performance in a great bounce back win after a disappointing R6. For the Magic the only player that scored double figures was Tash Ross-Harris who had 11 points and 12 boards.

YOUTH LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP MEN – Keilor 75 defeated Hawthorn 59 &
Led by Sam Loccisano (27p, 6r), the pressure of the Thunder was intense and it forced Hawthorn into a bundle of errors, leading to a 75-59 scoreline.

YOUTH LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP WOMEN – Hawthorn 68 defeated Waverley 61
