INFORMATION

Competitions Overview:

Basketball Hawthorn’s Primary School Competition, serves as a foundational level league for children across Boroondara. The competition is designed to provide a social and introductory platform, developing young players, and preparing them for future participation in club based competitions such as EDJBA and VJBL competitions.

The distinguishing feature of this competition lies in its school-based focus, making it a natural extension and pathway for graduates of the Aussie Hoops and Game Ready programs. Simply form your own team comprised of friends from school and register!

The competition is be structured based on school grades, with divisions available for Grade 2, Grade 3, and Grade 4, including competitions for boys and girls. Two seasons are provided annually, Summer playing across Term 4 & 1, and Winter operating through Term 2 & 3.

Match Regulations:

With the ethos of introductory, learning and participation, our Primary School Competitions are managed under standard FIBA Regulations, with the following match modified rules:

Each game will be allotted a 40-minute time slot.
Matches will consist of 2 x 16-minute halves.
Mixed gender teams may register to BOYS competitions
Younger grade children may play up in higher grade (i.e. Grade 3 child may play in Grade 4 competition, but cannot play in Grade 2 competition).
Teams will be granted one timeout per game.
The clock will not stop during play.
Keyway violations will not be enforced.
3-point baskets will not be recognised.
Referees will exercise discretion on travelling violations for the purpose of education, development, and participation.
A Mercy Rule will be applied – teams leading by 20 or more points to play with four players from half court only.
Competition Specific Regulations & Progression:
- Grade 2 competition = Size 5 ball and a lowered ring.
- Grade 3 competition = Size 5 ball and full-height ring.
- Grade 4 competition = Size 5 ball with full-height ring.
Finals will be structured as a 1-round, ladder-based playoff format (1v2, 3v4, 5v6, etc.).

PlayHQ Competition Management System:

In 2020, Basketball Victoria introduced a new member and competition management solution known as PlayHQ which includes an online scoring system.

Fee Structure and Explanation

BASKETBALL VICTORIA – Annual Participant License

Basketball Victoria has an individual member registration system in conjunction with PlayHQ. When each player registers, the system will check their individual license status, and when applicable, pay an annual fee directly to Basketball Victoria.

Players are charged for a new 365-day licence if they do not already have a current license that covers them for the entirety of the season they are registering to. This license covers any Basketball Victoria-sanctioned competition, training or event, with any club, team or association, allowing the participant to play as many times as they like within that 365-days period.

Players aged 18yrs and over the fee is $43 annually.
Players 17yrs and younger the fee is $29 annually.

This fee is payable by each player when completing their individual member registration.

TEAMMO – Competition Match Fees

Basketball Hawthorn operates a cashless payment system for all registration and match fees. No cash payments are taken at venues. Teammo is used for all domestic competitions match payments. Teammo provides a safe, secure and versatile solution for teams to manage team accounts:

Collect fees from team mates
Pay matches directly from the app weekly or in advance
Automated payment reminders
Forfeit notification and payment

How can you start using Teammo?

Team managers can sign up via teammo.com.au/hawthorn.
When you sign up, you will select Basketball Hawthorn. This will connect you to the association for payments and communications.
You can start collecting payments from players for weekly or upfront season payments. If a forfeit occurs during the season, you can also submit this through Teammo.

Basketball Victoria Tribunal

As an affiliated member of Basketball Victoria (BV), all members must abide by BV’s Codes of Conduct. Breaches of these codes can result in disciplinary action sanctioned under BV Tribunal By-laws. The Tribunal has been established to deal with poor behaviour, both on and off the court, with hearings usually administered on Basketball Victoria’s behalf at local associations.

Most reports are lodged by referees but others are also empowered to lodge reports. Hearings are kept as informal as possible but certain procedures must be followed by the Tribunal Members. Tribunals are heard by independent members on behalf of Basketball Victoria. The offences under the Tribunal By-laws carry maximum penalties, with life-time bans being the most serious for physical offences against officials.

REGISTRATION

Summer 2023/24 Overview:

Basketball Hawthorn is pleased to announce its inaugural Summer 2023/24 season, commencing Sunday 15 October. Registration is now open. Please take a moment to familiarise yourself with the season information below and follow the link below to submit your team today!

The Summer 2023/24 season operates from October to March, covering Term 4 & 1 of the Victorian school term calendar.

Venues & Schedule:
Games will be scheduled on Sunday afternoon’s between 12:00-4:00pm at the following venues:

Melbourne Girls College | 55 Yarra Blvd, Richmond 3121

Additional local venues may be utilised pending competition size and venue availabilities.

Registration and Match Fees:

Fee schedule effective Summer 2023/24 season:

Individual Member Fees:

Basketball Victoria Participant License

For players aged 18yrs and over the fee is $43 annually.
For players 17yrs and younger the fee is $29 annually.

Team Fees:

Team Registration Fee = $75
Match Fees = $65 per round
- Forfeit Fee:
  - 24hr+ notification = $130
  - Less than 24hrs notice = $145
  - All forfeits need to be submitted via Teammo

Important Notes:

Basketball Hawthorn operates a cashless system – all fees are paid online using PlayHQ & Teammo. There are no door entry or match fees paid at any venue.
All payments made online are inclusive of GST and service provider transaction fees.
Teams must comply with match payment terms using Teammo. Failure to meet these terms will result in ladder premiership points being deducted.
Late entries will be accepted subject to the sufficient venue, and competition capacity and charged at the nominal late fee price as indicated above.

Team Registration:

Team entries will remain open until Sunday 1 October.

Players can register to the team anytime before round 1, after the team entry has been submitted. Contact your team delegate for your player registration link.
