The Board of Basketball Hawthorn (BH) is delighted to announce the appointment of Jason Kelly for the position of General Manager. Currently the Referee Program Manager at Basketball Australia, Jason will commence in the role on June 1.
The appointment follows the resignation of previous General Manager Brock Rogers last December, after four years in the role.
Board Chair Genevieve Brammall said Jason was well qualified to lead the BH management team to establish and deliver its next three-year Strategic Plan in line with the principles of the Financial Resilience Plan adopted last year.
“Jason brings two decades of sports industry experience to this critical leadership role,” she said. “Having worked at local, state and national sporting organisations, including Basketball Victoria, Basketball Australia and the National Basketball League (NBL), Jason understands not only the operational requirements of the role but the importance of building and maintaining strong stakeholder relationships at a grassroots level.
“Jason’s appointment is timely, with a new Strategic Plan in the pipeline that will provide a roadmap for the next three years complementing the Financial Resilience Plan which is on track to deliver a surplus in its first year.”
“On behalf of the Board, we welcome Jason and look forward to supporting him to maintain a safe, supportive, affordable and fun space to play basketball in our region, with pathways for players to progress to elite junior and senior levels.”
The appointment marks a return to Basketball Hawthorn for Jason who – until last August – held the role of Competitions and Participation Manager at the Association.
“I’m very excited and looking forward to the challenge of leading the talented and highly skilled team at Basketball Hawthorn, working alongside a hard-working Board, and building on my strong relationships with domestic Clubs and other stakeholders,” Jason said.
“I am extremely passionate about sport and community and this role offers the perfect opportunity to enhance and contribute to both.”
