Part of the “Magic experience” offered this year for our U18/U20s was to go on Tour to the USA. We thought we would share with the Hawthorn community one of the many highlights of this tour!
Magic’s tour group were lucky to be in San Antonio to see the Spurs on their home court, and watch the legendary and much admired Australian – Patty Mills play.
We surprised the group, arriving early to be escorted court side to watch the Spurs players warm up right in front of us followed by meeting the legend himself, Patty Mills.
Patty spoke to the group about his experience at the Spurs, the importance of his close bond with his team mates, his game warm-up and the mental preparation which he feels is what makes players great, and his pride for playing for Australia 🙂
Patties tips to pursue a basketball career – is mental toughness, a supportive family, be prepared to make sacrifices and work hard, must be passionate, and he felt playing a variety of sports helped to mold him as a player.
This amazing opportunity was organised by Magic’s coach, Marcus Timmons who organised the surprise meet and greet, thanks Marcus 🙂
After the actual game, we then got to go on the court to shoot free throws…an awesome experience for all !
