Following the Junior and Senior Magic coaching announcements yesterday, Basketball Hawthorn is pleased to announce that Elyce Lambrou and Vince Rovetto will lead the Under 21 teams for the 2019/20 VJBL season.
Following the Division 1 Championship win this year with Hawthorn Magic, Elyce has chosen to retire from playing after 250 Big V games, and move into coaching. Elyce will lead the Under 21 Girls team in the 2019/20 VJBL season.
Whilst Vince Rovetto has been named Head Coach of the Under 21 Boys team moving up from within the Junior Magic ranks.
Basketball Hawthorn, General Manager, Brock Rogers is excited to promote two quality individuals from within the Program.
“Elyce posses the qualities that we are looking for and she understands what is required to become a senior quality player; it will be an easy transition from player to coach”.
“Vince has been waiting patiently for an opportunity to step after a number of successful seasons under the guidance of Shawn (King) and I am looking forward to watching Vince develop as a coach”, said Rogers.
On top of their appointments at Under 21 level, both coaches will also be involved in assisting within the Senior Magic Program in 2020 further enhancing relations between the Junior and Senior Programs.
“The decision furthers emphasis the programs desire to create an environment that accelerates that development and pathway between junior and senior basketball”, stated Rogers.
The appointments of Elyce and Vince complete the coaching grid for the Magic Program for the next 12 months.
“Now that all key positions are filled we can now turn our attention to preparations for the upcoming season”.
“Michael Dimattina and Shawn King have done a fantastic job locking in the key positions for our Program by early September, which means we are well placed heading into the upcoming try-outs”, said Rogers.
