Junior Magic 2022 Coaches Announced

Basketball Hawthorn is extremely proud to announce its Season 2022 Junior Magic coaches for each of the First VJBL Teams.

Junior Magic Girls Program 2022

Our Junior Magic Girls Coaching Grid takes on a refreshed approach to the upcoming season with a mixture of new and existing coaches, offering our athletes fantastic exposure to experience that comes from a State and National level.

Adrian Lewis has been elevated to lead the Under 12.1’s after spending a number of years coaching at other levels within the girls Program.

Tracey Wightman, who has recently been appointed the Assistant Coach for the U18 Victorian Women State Metro Team, will take on the head coaching role for the U16.1s.

Robbie Coulter who is returning to the program as a Specialist Coach, will also coach the U18.1 Girls and will be assisted by former Opal Emily McInerny.

We are also very happy to welcome Hamish Ryan back to the Magic Program as U14.1 Girls Head Coach. Hamish has spent the past few years as the Blackburn Vikings Senior Women’s Coach and was recently appointed as the Assistant Coach for the Under 16 Victoria Metro Girls team. Great to have Hamish back.

Junior Magic Boys Program 2022

The Boys Coaching Grid will see the return of Shawn King to lead the 18.1 Boys as well as continue in his role as Coach Coordinator for Hawthorn Magic.

Current Head of Basketball Dion Jewell will return to the coaching sidelines after his stint as a Specialist Coach in 2021 and will lead the U 16.1 Boys.

After leading the Under 14 Boys to an Australian Club Championship birth in 2021, Chris Hastings will lead the 12.1 Boys while Chris Garner will take on the 14.1 Boys in 2022 after being awarded the Les Gell Memorial Trophy as the Best Boys Coach in 2021.

‘We have made some changes that really excite me as the lead of the Magic Program. We   have been able to give some opportunities to coaches and bring in really talented coaches, which will go along way towards the growth and development of our athletes and program as a whole” said Dion Jewell, Head of Basketball.

“To be able to provide new opportunities within our coaching ranks, shows how invested we are in the individual development of our coaches and ensures we are setting them up to succeed for years to come’.

Basketball Hawthorn would also like to take this opportunity to thank out going coaches,

Michelle Brogan and Tom Maher for the countless efforts and contributions they have made over the many years spent within the Magic Program. We wish both Michelle and Tom all the best with their future endeavours.
