The Board of Basketball Hawthorn (trading as Hawthorn Magic) is seeking applications from suitably experienced and interested individuals to fill a paid General Manager position. We are seeking candidates whose interests align with the strategic direction of the Association and who will complement the current skill set of the existing staff and Board members.
Hawthorn Magic is a thriving basketball association centred in the City of Boroondara in the inner eastern suburbs of Melbourne. Magic has undergone a significant restructure in the past 18 months and is about to enter a stage of steady growth with our entry into the EDJBA junior domestic competition and the continuation of our successful VJBL junior representative program and senior mid-week competition. To build on that growth, Magic wishes to continue the high level of professionalism in all aspects of the Association’s operations.
The General Manager will have a unique opportunity to implement the club’s new 5-year Strategic Plan and make a mark on basketball across Victoria (and sport across Australia!). We currently operate with a small team of paid staff, and a passionate network of volunteers to deliver the day-to-day activities of the Association.

- Love sport (don’t have to have prior basketball operations experience),
- Consider yourself to be a strong operator (we aren’t looking for an administrator),
- Are looking for an autonomous role where you can come in and have an immediate impact to run a profitable sports club with a storied history. We want you to look at all revenue streams, optimise them and sustainably and responsibly grow the Magic for years to come!
