The Hawthorn Basketball Association (HBA) is pleased to announce Head Coaches for the Junior and Senior Magic Programs for the upcoming season.
Senior Magic Head Coaches
Senior Men: Peter Godfrey (3rd Year)
Senior Women: Jai Cesari (3rd Year)
Youth Men: Shawn King (3rd Year)
Youth Women: Tom Maher (2nd Year)
After a successful 2018 in Big V, all four coaches will return in 2019, hoping to continue the development and improvement of the senior program, which had both the Men and Youth Men teams reach the Semi-Finals (Top 4). That development of the Mens program was recognised with Peter Godfrey being awarded the Big V SCM Coach of the Year Award. The Women’s Program continued to demonstrate its ability to develop athletes with Lara Edmanson, Sara-Rose Smith and Sophie Owens making an impact within State and National Identification Programs.

Dion Jewell joins the Magic family from Werribee, where he was the Boys Coaching Lead, whilst he also lead the Devils boys team to the 2018 Under 14 National Club Championships. Dion was recently announced as an Assistant Coach for the 2019 Victorian Under 20 Mens state team, and is also an active member of the Basketball Victoria High Performance Coaching Network.
Matt Nunn comes to Hawthorn following a very successful season with Sandringham, winning the 2018 VJBL Under 18 Boys VC Title with the Sabres. Matt has had a long history in the game of basketball as a player and coach, and like Dion, is heavily involved in the Basketball Victoria High Performance Coaching network, and has been appointed as a Development Coach and Selector for the 2019 Victorian Under 20 Mens state team.
The Junior and Senior Magic Programs are overseen by a governance structure that includes the HBA Board of Directors, Junior Magic Committee, and HBA management.
