The Peter Godfrey coached Hawthorn Magic senior men have finished the regular season with a 14-8 record to make finals in the Big V State Championship Men’s (SCM) Division.
This is the first time the senior men have made finals in the top flight division of the state-wide semi-professional competition.
The team was lead throughout the regular season by US import and MVP candidate, Nelson Kirksey who averaged 21 points and 6 rebounds a game, whilst Alex Bogart-King (12pts – 6rebs) and Jake Barry (13-5-4) added support week in week out, along with fellow US import Jordan Latham, Luke Sist and co who provided great paint and rim protection, which helped the team become one of the best on the defensive end.
The 14-8 record was good enough for the team to finish 4th and host a home Elimination Final this weekend against Casey Cavaliers. The Magic had the better of the Cavaliers in both encounters this season, winning by 20 at Casey earlier in the season, before following it up later in the season with a 5 point victory at home.
The Hawthorn Basketball Association (HBA) is pleased to announce that the Big V SCM Elimination Final will be part of an exciting night of basketball in Boroondara, with the HBA also hosting an international exhibition game between the Chinese Taipei National Team and a selected AND1 All Star team at Boroondara Sports Complex.
