General Manager to Depart

The Board of Basketball Hawthorn today acknowledges the resignation of General Manager Brock Rogers, effective from Friday December 4.

Brock has led the Association with enthusiasm and an unwavering commitment over the past four years, launching several important initiatives including the Association’s first ever Strategic Plan (2018-2020) 3 years ago. With a new Strategic Plan to be developed in the New Year, Brock said it was timely for a new leader to participate in, and influence, that strategy for the next three years.

Among his key achievements, Brock has nurtured a high-performing team to deliver:

  • A complete Governance overhaul, including the updating and amending the Constitution, establishing the Audit, Risk and Compliance Committee, and improving the sub-committee structure;
  • Improvements to Child Safety standards and key policy and procedures documentation;
  • The rollout of Stadium Scoring across all venues by securing the Association’s largest-ever sponsor via Community Bank Branches and in turn, creating a partnership with Optus Business Centre to ensure that Sponsorship dollars were maximised;
  • Significant growth for the Association with a 17% increase in team registrations (12% Juniors and 27% Seniors), 1000% increase in introductory/development program participation, and 40% growth in revenue, along with a suite of new and diverse revenue streams;
  • A rebrand of the Association by completing an extensive and independent consultation process, which led to a new name, new colour palette, and new logos creating a stronger presence and re-energised look;
  • An environment that has allowed the Junior and Senior Magic Representative Programs to thrive and accelerate growth and development, that has resulted in the Junior Representative Program being recognised nationally for its excellence;
  • An innovative industry first by becoming a recognised cashless Association (only 2.5% cash – linked to Basketball Victoria competitions) minimising the Association’s risk profile and creating a safer workplace.

”Having navigated a Return to Play strategy and Financial Resilience Plan with our stakeholders leading out of lockdown, I leave the Association well poised to achieve its potential,” Brock said.

“With the AGM and Board election next  month, I believe the time is right to seek fresh professional challenges.

“I’m immensely proud of the progress the Association has made during my tenure.

“I am grateful for the support, guidance and advice of the many Board of Directors over the past four years, in particular past Chairs, Richard Wraith, David Skelton and current office-bearers, Gen Brammall (Chair) and Adam Kierce (Secretary), along with all volunteer sub-committee members, who continue to give up so much of their time and expertise for the benefit of the Association.

“Finally, I have been lucky enough to be surrounded by some amazing individuals within the administration team, who have been a pleasure to lead, and who have inspired and educated me in return.”

Board chair Gen Brammall thanked Brock for his enormous contribution to Basketball Hawthorn and wished him well for the future.

“Brock has devoted countless hours to Basketball Hawthorn, most notably in this challenging year during COVID-19. His energy and passion are unmatched,” she said.

The Board of Basketball Hawthorn is considering interim management measures and will advise of these in the coming days.
