Dear Basketball Hawthorn members,
Hope everyone is looking forward to the long Easter break and the concluding rounds of the Autumn 2022 season as we start the lead up to finals.
Management Update
Since December 2021, Basketball Hawthorn has been without a board, with Basketball Victoria having oversight of management matters. The recent addition of operational support from Sports Administrative Services (SAS) has alleviated some of the administrative burden, including the return of a familiar face to the team, Jason Weidemann (former Operations Manager) and James Shotton.
Referee & Supervisors Program
Like many businesses, the impact of COVID and close-contact isolation protocols continues to present challenges to our referees programs.
If you have previous experience as a referee &/or venue supervisor and would like to get involved with our team please contact referees@hawthornmagic.com.au

Autumn 2022 Finals
Our domestic competitions conclude with a two-round elimination format finals.
Semi-final matches see 1st v 4th and 2nd vs 3rd play off against each other. The winning teams from each match progress through to the Grand Final.
Finals commence week of Sunday 19 June. Check fixtures on PlayHQ for dates, times & venues.
Spring 2022 Registration
The Spring 2022 season will operate again from July – December this year. We expect to have registrations open before the end of April.
With a number of competitions reaching venue capacity limits, we anticipate offering first opportunity to existing teams before opening up to the public.
Keep your eye on our communications via email, social media and website to ensure you don’t miss out!
Behaviour, Tribunal & Venues Reminder
Finally, we would like to take the opportunity to reminder players of their obligations under Basketball Victoria’s Codes of Conduct.
Please make sure that when you are playing, you are showing respect to the referees, other players, facilities and Basketball Hawthorn Staff.
These policies are available HERE
Failure to adhere to approrpirate standards of behaviour can result in Basketball Victoria tribunal hearings and suspensions. Furthermore, we regret to advise some poor behaviour earlier this year resulted in Basketball Hawthorn’s agreement with a key competition venue being suspended effective immediately. As a consquence some competitions have be severely impacted, limiting our options to utilize some of the highest quaility facilities in our region.
If you are a non-participating / former member and have the time / capacity to volunteer on the BV Tribunal Panel that oversees Basketball Hawthorn competitions, please contact operations@hawthornmagic.com.au
