COVID Update: Sunday 18 July – Domestic & Representative Teams Impacted by Local Exposure Sites

As you all may have seen across the news outlets in the past 24 hours, there has been increasing coverage surrounding exposure sites in our local community, and our thoughts are with our players, coaches and families, in our basketball community, who have been impacted.

Like us at Basketball Hawthorn, no doubt you along with all our Clubs, players, coaches, referees and families, are disappointed that Lockdown 5.0 has impacted our competitions – including the much-anticipated return of the junior domestic Winter Season and VJBL matches after the school holiday break.

Given the circumstances, we would like to provide a snapshot of what we know for impacted players and teams. The below information is supplied in good faith based on all the current information at hand, however, we are not an official Public Health Unit and so this advice is general and not specific to every person’s individual circumstances.

What should Trinity Grammar students & families do?

Follow public health advice and official advice issued by your school

My team trained at Trinity Grammar last week (Mon-Thurs), what should we do?

There is no requirement to quarantine, nor to test.

We received updated advice at 5.00pm Sunday from the relevant Public Health Unit ( North Eastern). As our practice times fall outside of the exposure times of July 12-14 from 8.00am to 4.00pm no one who attended any BH training session – domestic or representative – is required to quarantine. If you develop symptoms of Covid-19 the current advice is to get tested and isolate until a negative result.

What should I do if I trained alongside a Trinity player at another basketball venue last week (Mon-Thurs)?

Our advice is that it is not necessary for any of our other players or coaches who may have trained last week to be tested (unless you have a connection to Trinity in which case you should follow the advice from the school and DHHS). However, if you feel unwell or have symptoms or would feel more reassured by having a test, then you should follow the Victorian Government advice and get tested.

What should I do if my family or I are impacted as a Primary Close Contact of a public exposure site?

Follow public health advice and also please notify Basketball Hawthorn at covid19@hawthornbasketball.com.au in the event you or a household member tests positive. If you have been in contact with others not living in the same household, they are deemed Secondary Close Contacts and they need to isolate and await the test results of the Primary Close Contact.

Our thoughts are with all of our Basketball Hawthorn players, coaches, referees and families who are currently in enforced 14-day quarantine which must be stressful and frustrating for all.

It would be greatly appreciated if you could keep us informed if you receive a positive test so that we can take any appropriate steps to protect others in our Basketball Hawthorn community. Please email us at covid19@hawthornbasketball.com.au

As you can appreciate, this situation is as fluid as it is serious. The advice and exposure sites are being updated constantly. We urge all families to stay vigilant, follow the public health advice, and keep an eye on the official list of Public Exposure Sites which is changing hourly.
