Return to play plans fast-tracked

Opportunity for juniors to play competitively from Term 1
-
Registrations opening soon!
Dear Players and Families,
We are so excited to announce that Basketball Hawthorn, in collaboration with all Junior Domestic Clubs, has accelerated plans to return to competition earlier than originally communicated.
Well done to us all for ending the Second Wave and being in a position to resume ‘normal’ life operations sooner than anticipated!
Junior Domestic Competition
Our plan will now see opportunities to play from the start of Term 1.
Our Return to Play will be split into 3 stages of competition allowing for players to choose how much they play and how soon they return to the court.
Initially, a social basketball competition will be staged to reduce the chance of injuries and increase physical fitness and endurance after the slowdown forced by the COVID break. It will also allow referees to refresh their skills, and allow for larger Clubs who grade their #1 and #2 teams to do so during this time. The regular Winter Season will then start as usual in Term 2.
Term 1
- Feb 6: A celebratory weekend of 3×3 friendly competition, skills shoot outs, and more! Incorporating a Welcome Back Basketball Hawthorn Celebration Day – further details to come!
- Feb 13 – March 27: Six-week Summer Slam Round Robin (5×5 Club Competition).
Term 2 & 3
- April 24 – Sept 11: normal Winter Season Club Competition

Financial Resilience Levy
From 2021, Basketball Hawthorn will introduce a financial resilience fee to help pay down historic debt in order to future-proof the finances of the Association and to provide the opportunity for enhanced investment and infrastructure in the future. We want to recommence play in a safe, affordable and financially responsible manner to provide for a sustainable association well into the future. The financial resilience model carefully enables competitions to be run in a profitable but affordable manner that enables all Basketball Hawthorn debts to be repaid in full within four years.
Under the financial resilience plan, a small levy of $1.00 per player per game will be applied in the registration process for all BH competition, programs, and events. For Junior Domestic players however, this fee will be reduced on a volume discount to $0.50c per player per game reflecting the enormous contribution Junior Domestic fees make to the overall revenues at BH.
Click here for more detailed information about the resilience levy.
If you have any questions, concerns or feedback related to the Financial Resilience Levy or the Basketball Hawthorn finances generally , please get in touch with the Board at weareback@hawthornmagic.com.au
Administration
Basketball Hawthorn staff currently remain working heavily reduced hours under the Government JobKeeper scheme. Therefore, it may take longer for the administration team to respond to inquiries. As always, please direct any queries via your Club. We hope to appropriately increase staff hours in December and January to accommodate the season restart.
Finally, from all of us at Basketball Hawthorn, thank you for your patience over the past several months and in the months ahead. We are so thrilled to have made it through!
We can’t wait for the upcoming season to begin!
