With the Victorian Government announcing easing of COVID-19 Restrictions the Winter 2021 Junior Domestic competitions will resume this weekend, Saturday 31 July & Sunday 1 August 2021. Additionally, the Spring 2021 Senior Domestic Competition will also resume from tomorrow, 29th July Thursday. Please check the updated fixtures on PlayHQ or click here.
To allow for the safe return of indoor sport there are a number of restrictions in place that we all must follow:
MASKS
Masks are currently mandatory for all patrons over 12 years of age at all times indoors (state-wide) unless medically exempt. Players, coaches and referees are exempt while on court participating in an exertive role, however, must be worn while not playing and on entry and exit of the stadium.
PARENTS & GUARDIANS
Under the current restrictions, participants under the age of 18 are allowed one parent/guardian to attend their match. This does not include siblings (unless they are younger than 12 months).
To comply with venue density limits, no other spectators are permitted. While this is frustrating for everyone the only way basketball can return is if all teams comply with this restriction.
FIXTURES & VENUES
For Juniors:
Due to the current limit on the number of people allowed in an indoor space we have had to reduce the number of matches played at Boroondara Sports Complex. On a normal Saturday, Boroondara Sports Complex hosts up to 50 games. The maximum number of games we can currently run at Boroondara Sports Complex has been reduced to 40 games. Therefore, there has been significant changes to our fixtures across all our venues. Teams are asked to check PlayHQ for the most up to date fixture.
Round 10 Fixtures are now available at the following link:
“DROP & GO” APPROACH
Bialik College, Carey Sports Complex, Boroondara Sports Complex and Camberwell Grammar School has informed us that although Victorian Government restrictions allow one parent or guardian per player Under 18 years of age, they are NOT allowing any parents inside the Sports Centre unless they are the team coaches or team managers.
We have been able to negotiate one additional team official to be allowed into the affected venues as a ‘Drop & Go’ Supervisor.
For Round 10 all Under 12 games have been moved away from Bialik College to other venues. Therefore the youngest teams playing at Bialik College will be Under 14s from 12:00 noon.
The Bialik College Sports Centre foyer area will be closed until further easing of restrictions.
QR CODES
Please use your phone to check in via the QR Code on display at the entrance of each venue.
OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION
- Participants must not arrive more than 5 minutes before their match
- Participants are required to leave the venue as soon as possible following the conclusion of their game
- Hand sanitiser will be available at all venues
- Venue Supervisors will sanitise shared equipment at the end of each match (eg: match balls, iPads, scoreboard controller, score bench)
QUARANTINE
Any person who has been in quarantine/isolation needs to ensure you have received clearance from DHHS. We know some of our families, players, coaches and referees that have been doing it tough the last few weeks, but the last thing we want to do is to risk undoing all the hard work of the past two weeks.
These restrictions will be in place for the next two weeks and we will keep clubs updated as to any restrictions ease.
Basketball Victoria is aware of five occasions of Victorian Government COVID Compliance Officers inspecting other basketball venues in-between Lockdown 4 and Lockdown 5. We ask all Basketball Hawthorn teams to follow the Return to Sport Guidelines to ensure our association is compliant in the event of government inspection.
