Basketball Hawthorn and Hawthorn Magic are always grateful to the people behind the scenes that make Basketball happen at Hawthorn. This is the first in a series of posts dedicated to Hawthorn coaches, players, administrators and referees that create the Magic at Hawthorn.
Shawn King
Shawn is the Hawthorn Magic Coach Coordinator, Championship Men’s Coach and Under 18.1B’s coach (both teams are looking strong for finals). He is an absolute rock of the program and has been part of it since 2013. In his early days, he coached McKinnon, Oakleigh, Dandenong and Chelsea.

Shawn played professional basketball in Australia, China, England, France and Hong Kong. He has won 3 Big V Championships and 2 Championships in England. In 2016/17, Shawn coached the Magic U18.1 boys in VC to a preliminary Final.
Shawn lives locally with his wife Tania and kids Jaelon, Katya, Liv and Gigi. Originally from Canada, he has very much made his home in Australia since arriving here in 1998 to play in WA. He started playing in year 8, fell in love with the game and is still part of the sport 35 years later. After High School, he played at Vancouver Island University in Canada and after two years transferred to the University of Victoria (Canada). Once he graduated he played in Hong Kong, China and then made his way to Australia.
Shawn loves winning. He also loves the friendships he has made worldwide and the opportunities to experience different countries and cultures. Shawn follows the LA Lakers and Toronto Raptors (because he is Canadian).
