Basketball Hawthorn (BH) has today given notice of its upcoming Annual General Meeting and is now seeking nominations for Board positions to fill four director vacancies.
Board Chair Genevieve Brammall said the Board was keen to attract committed volunteers with diverse backgrounds and skill sets. Basketball Hawthorn has a dynamic and progressive Board overseeing the strategic direction of our Association – one of the largest basketball leagues in the State. The Association is setting new benchmarks for success at all levels, from the U9s to the elite level to child safety and strong governance, and is calling for volunteers keen to share that journey.
BH administers nearly eight thousand players across junior and senior domestic and representative competitions.
The vacancies have been created by the resignation in 2019 of directors David Skelton (February) and Hannah Lowe (November).
Director Martin Guthrie has indicated he will not stand for re-election at the December 14 AGM, while Martin Reich has already served two terms over six years and is no longer eligible for re-election.
The Board especially thanked Martin Reich for six continuous years of service, and acknowledged his dedication to growing the sport of basketball in the inner east, in particular his passion and work on the facilities sub-committee for several years.
The Board also congratulated Hannah Lowe on her recent appointment as head coach of an NBL 1 Women’s team.
“Hannah is a valued, respected and integral member of the Basketball Hawthorn community and we look forward to an opportunity to welcome her back to Hawthorn Magic to coach at some point,” she said.
Hannah, of course, will continue to lead the Titans Basketball Club in the Basketball Hawthorn domestic competition.
As a result of the NBL1 appointment, Hannah stepped down from her role as a Basketball Hawthorn Board member at last Monday’s Board meeting.
Board and Management thank Hannah for the tremendous insight, enthusiasm and positive energy that she brought to the Basketball Hawthorn Board over the past 12 months and wish her every success in furthering her coaching credentials and career.
Nominations for election can be submitted by completing the Nomination Form and sending it to secretary@hawthornmagic.com.au by Saturday 7 December 2019.
