CHAMPIONSHIP MEN – Diamond Valley 92 defeated Hawthorn 74
A busy weekend closed with Diamond Valley celebrating a 92-74 win against the visiting Magic. A closely contest opening three quarters opened up in the last with the home team finishing fast, going on a 26-12 run to score a confident win in front of their fans. Brad Bridgewater (24pts, 12rbs), Matt McCarthy (20pts) and Tim Brook (17pts) flew high for the Eagles, while for the Magic it was Andrew Kelly (28pts) and Ben Waldren (24pts) collectively scoring 52 of their team’s 74pts.
DIVISION 1 WOMEN – Western Port 74 defeated Hawthorn 51
The Steelers continue to push towards an unlikely finals birth this time coming away with a comfortable 74-51 win over the Hawthorn Magic. The Steelers won every quarter over the Magic with import Jess Jenkins again dominant, this time scoring 33 points and pulling down 10 boards. As usual Jenkins was again strong from range this on this occasion nailing 5/11 from deep. Jenna McCormick also was solid for the Steelers with 15 points and 10 boards in the solid win. For the Magic Tash Ross-Harris led the scoring with 13 points and had an impressive 21 boards.
MOLTEN VIC YOUTH CHAMPIONSHIP MEN – Hawthorn 101 defeated Waverley 52
Hawthorn poured on the points and managed triple figures en route to a 101-52 drubbing of Waverley. Five players in double figures led by Jack Barry (20p) had the Magic showing tricks as they hit 11 triples as a team.
MOLTEN VIC YOUTH CHAMPIONSHIP WOMEN – Knox 67 defeated Hawthorn 37
Knox got the job done over the Magic off the back of an incredible second half. The Raiders managed to cough up just seven points for the entire half! All players in double digits came off the bench, led by Skye Beaton (Hawthorn) 14 points and Meagan Wylie (Knox) with 12 points.
