Big V Round 11 Wrap Up

Check out the Big V Hawthorn Magic wrap up below from this past weekend.

CHAMPIONSHIP MEN – Waverley 106 defeated Hawthorn 91
Waverley put in for a 15pt win over Hawthorn, taking a 34-14 lead after the first quarter before simply managing the contest through to the final buzzer. Chris Cameron (31pts, 12rbs) and Ivan Platenik (25pts) dominated the paint to lead the way for the Falcons, while for Hawthorn it was Ben Waldren (26pts) topping the scoresheet.

DIVISION 1 WOMEN – Sunbury 91 defeated Hawthorn 77
Genevieve McCorkell had an absolutely outstanding game leading Sunbury to a 91-77 high scoring victory over Hawthorn. McCorkell had 27 points and 11 boards, shooting at 13/21 from the field stepping up and giving the Jets another solid scoring option. In a great team performance from the Jets Theodore had 18, Knox and Wells 13, and Jeffers and Cook 9 in a balanced offensive effort. For the Magic Nicole Swan was impressive with 25 points, 10 boards and 4 assists with Tash Ross-Harris not far behind with 17 and 13. A much needed win for Sunbury looking to keep in touch with the top 5.

MOLTEN VIC YOUTH CHAMPIONSHIP MEN – Hawthorn 86 defeated McKinnon 70 & Hawthorn 71 defeated Bulleen 64
Hawthorn scored back to back wins over the weekend. A big 2nd and 3rd quarters from the Magic secured the victory heading into the final quarter. Hawthorn’s bench gave them 53 points in total, lead by Prav Chelvan with 17 points. Joel Becker (19p, 8r, 3s) the best for the Cougars.

On Sunday, the Magic headed to Bulleen to grab a 7 point victory thanks to a 26-12 final quarter. A great spread of scoring across the starters and bench players reflects a great team ethic to secure the win. Currently Hawthorn sit in 2nd place in the Watson pool for Molten VYCM.

MOLTEN VIC YOUTH CHAMPIONSHIP WOMEN – Sandringham 69 defeated Hawthorn 67 & Bulleen 80 defeated Hawthorn 58
The so called over achieving Magic were brought back down to earth a little bit this weekend, suffering back to back losses to Sandringham and Bulleen. A heartbreaking defeat at the hands of the Sabres after Kate Hore’s terrific game. 20 points, seven rebounds and seven steals led the side to victory, despite a gallant effort from Emily Ewart (10p, 15r). Another 20 points to Bulleen’s Emma Pearce, plus solid contributions around the board made for a disappointing weekend for the Magic. They still sit in 4th position in the Terrill Pool vying for a finals position.
