CHAMPIONSHIP MEN – Hawthorn 100 defeated Sherbrooke 91
Sherbrooke threw away an opportunity to grab an important win at Hawthorn, blowing a 16pt lead after the first quarter to go down by 9pts after the Magic turned up the heat, especially in the second half when they piled on 51pts. Jarrod O’Shannessy (34pts, 8 treys) had a night out for the home team, putting together arguably his best game in recent years, while teammate Ben Waldren (26pts) also got amongst the scoring spree. MOLTEN VIC YOUTH LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP MEN – Hawthorn 73 defeated Bulleen 65 & Hawthorn 74 defeated Frankston 64
Hawthorn nailed the weekend as well with a duo of wins. The Magic successfully defended home court with an eight point win over Bulleen, before notching a ten point victory over the Blues. Despite a horrid third term by the Magic, they bounced back in the fourth to secure the contest. The return of Richard Oryem (19p) wasn’t enough for the Boomers as Paddy McBrearty and Jack Barry combined for 30 to lead the team. No Barry on Sunday however, as the Magic leaned on McBrearty’s hot shooting, six of seven from deep to be exact. His 20 points was too much to contain, despite Jack Wilson’s best efforts with 21.
MOLTEN VIC YOUTH LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP WOMEN – Hawthorn 73 defeated Frankston 50
Hawthorn got the win away to Frankston with Emily Ewart (14p, 12r) registered a double double, while Meg Jeffs was best for the Blues with eight points, 11 rebounds and five dimes.
