Basketball Hawthorn is pleased to announce the appointment of Jess Jones as the organisation’s new General Manager. Jess, a seasoned professional with a wealth of leadership experience and a strong commercial, marketing and communications background, is poised to leverage her expertise in guiding Basketball Hawthorn into a transformative phase. Her primary focus will include boosting participation, especially among women and girls, securing a dedicated home facility for Basketball Hawthorn, and fostering improved connections with the broader community.

With an impressive career in sports, Jess has held key roles that have solidified her reputation as a dynamic and strategic leader. Most recently, she was the Women’s Team Manager for the Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash League and was a Sales Manager for AFLW & Community Football at the Australian Football League (AFL) prior, developing strategies to promote AFLW platform, Workplay. Jess led a national Community Grants Program, aimed at empowering women and girls’ participation in community football, and executed the renewal of the VFL and VFLW Naming Rights Partnerships with Smithy’s and Rebel Sport. Jess was previously at REA Group (realestate.com.au) as a Marketing Consultant and an Internal Communications Advisor. She has also run her own businesses, bringing an entrepreneurial approach to her new role.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Jess has demonstrated a commitment to governance and community involvement. She served as the Chair of Basketball Victoria’s Peninsula Project Group, playing a crucial role in shaping the project’s strategic direction. Jess has also served as a Board Member at the Frankston Football Club and an Advisory Committee Member for the Melbourne University Women’s Football Club.

The Board of Basketball Hawthorn is confident that Jess’ unique blend of skills, passion for community basketball, and extensive experience in sports leadership and governance will contribute significantly to the growth and success of the organisation.

We are thrilled to welcome Jess Jones as the new General Manager of Basketball Hawthorn. Her proven track record of leadership, combined with her passion for sports and community engagement, aligns perfectly with our vision for the future of our organisation,” said Chris Sinicco, Chairperson of Basketball Hawthorn.

Jess expressed her excitement about her appointment, “I am honoured to lead Basketball Hawthorn and contribute to the vibrant basketball community here. I look forward to working with the board, staff, players and officials, facility managers, Basketball Victoria, Boroondara City Council, and the broader basketball community to further develop and build upon the strong foundation established by the board over the past 18 months.

Please join us in welcoming Jess to Basketball Hawthorn to lead us through the next phase of our organisation’s journey.
